This is the first US reading by Ivan Jirous, the legendary Czech poet and philosopher who coined

the term "parallel polis" during Czechoslovak normalization, and who managed the Plastic People

of the Universe. He will read a selection of his poetry and a few excerpts from his samizdat-era

and contemporary essays (in Czech with English translation). 


A small selection of never before seen underground films from the 1960s and 1970s will be played.
