What is sound-rich audio? Is it the new TV?

Every October, the Prix Europacompetition is held in Berlin's Haus des Rundfunks, bringing together the best Europe has to offer in radio, television, and emerging media.

Hear and discuss sound-rich audio from the 2009 competition, including excerpts from:
"Hark, the Acoustic World of Elizabethan England," Coproduced in St. John's, Newfoundland, Vancouver, BC, and London by Chris Brookes, Paolo Pietropaolo, and Alan Hall; "Borderland / Na kraji sveta", directed by Jirí Slavicínský and Helmut Kopetzky for Czech Radio; "Hunting Scenes from Lower Franconia / Jagdszenen aus Unterfranken," directed by Sibylle Tamin for Bavarian Radio, Germany and "Lost in Music: the Cornel Chiriac Story," directed by Patrick Banush for SWR2, Germany. Winner of the Prix Europa for Best Radio Documentary 2009.

As an extra added attraction, we will also present part of "Westernizing Berlin" produced by Jens Jarisch recently for the BBC. Jens was a guest of Hear Now! and the Goethe-Institut in 2008.

Presented in cooperation with Prix Europa and Hear Now!, a collective of radio and audio producers in the greater Washington area.
