On February 9, 2011 at 8 pm, the Avalon Theater will screen for one night only the film Close to Heaven (Blizko nebe) as part of the Lions of Czech Film Series organized in collaboration with the Embassy of the Czech Republic.

The film is a love story of a white girl and young African boy Samuel, who lives with his family in hotel named Close to Heaven. The story and perceptions of Samuel are interconnected with the lives of the other residents of the hotel, including: a marihuana smoking illusionist, siamese twins Kira and Mina, the mysterious Mr. Jägermeister, former boxer Fred, and the hotel owner. This story points to the co-existence of different nationalities, ages, and opinions in which everything depends especially on the point of view of the observer. Slowly but surely, the fates of the characters living at the hotel become entwined, leading to a predestined conclusion.
