Manolo: The Boy Who Made Shoes for Lizards (Director: Michael Roberts, 89 minutes, 2017)
RSVP

Dvelve into an in-depth portrait of Manolo Blahnik, self-confessed 'cobbler' and the man regarded by most influential fashion figures as the best high-end shoe designer of the 20th and 21st centuries. This is a film for anyone who has ever looked longingly at a pair of 'Manolos'.

Growing up on a remote Spanish Canary island, Manolo made shoes out of sweet wrappers for lizards that he caught in his family's garden. After opening his first store in London in 1973 and coming of age in fashion capitals such as Paris and New York, Manolo now has shops anddepartment store concessions in over 20 countries and retains full control of the business, still creating every shoe, even hand-carving the wooden forms himself.

Director and longtime fashion journalist Michael Roberts presents this never-before-seen peek into Mr. Blahnik's world, featuring a 'who's who' of the fashion and entertainment industries including Anna Wintour, Rihanna, Paloma Picasso, Iman, Naomi Campbell, Rupert Everett, Karlie Kloss, Isaac Mizrahi, and André Leon Tally.

Revel in an exhibition of the newest collection by New York Fashion Week participant Iva Pfeiffer, presented at Milan Fashion Week. Inspired by her recent journey to India, Pfeiffer shows how we can weave our variances to claim a common texture - humanity.
The event features a workshop on traditional block printing with the designer herself and Petra Valentová.

Iva Pfeiffer creates wearable art that transcends traditional notions of fashion: her philosophies are woven into the design, fabric, and construction of each garment. That she never produces two identical pieces bestows on each garment its own narrative and a compelling blend of elegance and vibrancy.
Exploring - and evolving - traditional as well as modern textiles and techniques, Iva draws on a rich array of fabrics and materials, all of which are ethically sourced. Textures and colours, along with her philosophies and questions, inspire her designs that are characterised by astonishing intricacy and fluidity.

“For the fashion industry to be relevant and reflect 21st century values, it must reject out-dated concepts and practices, including disposable fashion and exploitation of workers.” Iva Pfeiffer

Decrying the fast and frivolous, Iva’s “slow fashion” philosophy respects every element of design and fashion, from fabric-making to sustainability of the finished garment. Her pieces simultaneously celebrate and challenge, making  them impossible to ignore.
