This broad-hearted ensemble comedy was a box office hit in the Czech Republic. After determining that his wife Zuzana's nose is just too big, TV weatherman Oskar cheats on her with the family's vapid nanny, leading to a downward spiral that finds him out of a job and in a series of loveless affairs. In the meantime, Zuzana has no problem finding a new partner in divorced single father Matej, aided in no small part by Oskar's parents. Full of fine details and subtle wit, this delightful film skirts tragedy and plunges headlong into farce.(Dir. Jan Hrebejk, 2008, 88 min., in Czech with English subtitles)

Exhibition: The Library of Rescued Memories: Pictures and Stories from the Centropa Interviews in the Czech Republic
Guest speakers: Rabbi Andrew Baker, Director of International Jewish Affairs, and Edward Serotta, Director of Centropa
B’nai Israel Congregation, 6301 Montrose Road, Rockville, MD
Between 2000–2008, Centropa interviewed 1,200 Holocaust survivors in fifteen European countries. Centropa never used video nor did it focus on the Holocaust. Instead, Centropa digitized 22,000 family photos, while asking its elderly respondents to share their stories of how their families lived, not only how they perished. In the Czech Republic, Centropa interviewed seventy elderly Jews and digitized a thousand old photos. This exhibition of seventy panels is filled with oversized photos and the stories that go with them: some heartwarming, many heartbreaking. Visit www.centropa.org/czech to find the entire exhibition online.
