Come and swing to the sounds of the 1920s at the historic Bohemian National Hall with music by Ondrej Havelka & His Melody Makers, a renowned Czech band that plays the best of American and Central European jazz and swing music. Cash bar by Bohemian Spirit Restaurant will be available for both events.

The 1920s were a time of great importance in both the United States and the recently founded Czechoslovakia, after the United States and President Woodrow Wilson supported Tomas Garrigue Masaryk and the creation of the Czechoslovak Republic at the end of World War I in 1918. The two nations have since had a steady relationship of cultural exchange in a number of areas, yet the atmosphere of the 1920s is particularly special. Americans, Czechs and Slovaks all experienced a period of peace after World War I where the energy was focused on a style of fashion and music that flourished as never before.

Let's then travel back in time into the roaring 1920s with Ondrej Havelka & His Melody Makers - a band that plays the best of American and Central European jazz and swing music from the 1920s and 1930s. Ondrej Havelka leads the band as a soloist singer, speaker and dancer. As the band states, a concert by Ondrej Havelka & His Melody Makers is "more than that, it is a show designed to emulate the typical manners of those times, complete with the costumes and hairdos, and rounded off by overall direction of the performance."

The events are organized by BBLA, Czech Center NY, Consulate General of the Czech Republic in New York and Permanent Mission of the Czech Republic to the UN in New York, and sponsored by KBC Bank and XLAB Realtime LLC.
