Viktor Kalabis who died on September 28, 2006, at the age of 83, was one of the most significant Czech composers of the second half of the 20th century. His powerful and masterfully composed works come out the tradition of Martinů and Stravinsky. The program will include his Trio for violin, cello, and piano, his piano quartet “Ludus,” and his song cycle “Birds’ Wedding,” as well as works of Martinů and Dvořák.The performers are Elizabeth Kluegel (soprano), Karyn Friedman (mezzo soprano), Judith Spokes (violin), Andrea Vercoe (viola), David Cho (cello), and Carl Banner (piano). This program is made possible in part by funding from the Viktor Kalabis and Zuzana Růžičková Foundation.
