Description

CECHOMOR - FIRST TIME IN CANADA

    RELOCATED - Cechomor - Concert - RELOCATED

    June 17, 2009 at 8:30 pm

Phoenix Concert Theatre, 410 Sherbourne Street, Toronto, ON M4X 1K2

On the occasion of the Czech Presidency in EU, the Consulate General of the Czech Republic has the honour to present one of the best contemporary Czech bands – Cechomor – with the first time performance in Canada on June 17, 2009.

Founded in 1988 as Ceskomoravská nezávislá hudební spolecnost (First Bohemian & Moravian Independent Music Society), the group quickly developed a large following, counting former President Václav Havel as one of its biggest fans. Their repertoire reflects the passion and anguish of a region moulded by raids and battles, and traces back the Celtic echoes that lie deeply rooted in the cultures of Bohemia and Moravia but which are related to the music of Brittany and Ireland in particular.

In 1993, the group played in the foyer of London's Royal Albert Hall as part of a Czech music festival, but it wasn't until 2001's collaboration with Killing Joke's Jaz Coleman, Promeny (Transformations) that the band hit the mainstream with a far less unwieldy name. Promeny went multi-platinum in the Czech and Slovak Republics and picked up a slew of awards. With several platinum discs under their belt, they have toured throughout Europe, the UK and Russia. And now, they bring their energy and musical brilliance to a beautiful private park in the Markham Road and Lawrence Avenue East area of Scarborough.

Advanced sale of tickets at www.ticketweb.ca, Prague Fine Food Emporium and Prague Restaurant. Tickets are CAD $ 31.50 including GST or $ 40.00 at the door.

On the occasion of the Czech Presidency of the EU, the Czech Consulate General in Toronto in cooperation with its partners proudly presents one of the best Czech bands of the last decade - Czechomor.

Czechomor - The band that revolutionized traditional West Slavic music and took it to the world stage...

Founded in 1988, the group quickly developed a large following, counting former President Václav Havel as one of its biggest fans. Their repertoire consists of Moravian; Czech and Slovak folk songs translated in modern fashion and reflect the passion and anguish of a region moulded by raids and battles. The sound traces back the Celtic echoes that lie deeply rooted in the cultures of Bohemia, Moravia and Slovakia but which are related to the music of Brittany and Ireland in particular.

With several platinum discs under their belt, they have toured throughout Europe, the UK and Russia.

Czechomor has sold over 200,000 albums and won three Czech Music Academy Awards for their breakthrough album "Transformations." Through their music, they trace back Celtic echoes that are deeply rooted in the cultures of Bohemia and Moravia. The band's unique mélange of traditional folk mixed with Ottoman dissonance, Gypsy czardas, Napoleonic mustering dances and Celtic rhythms have succeeded in winning over young and old alike.
