For the 1st time ever, the girls team from the Czech Republic has won the Little League Junior Softball European Championship and will represent Europe, Middle East and Africa at the Little League Junior Softball World Series in Kirkland Washington August 11, through August 19, 2012.
The event is a true "world" series, as participating teams come from all over the globe - come out and cheer on the Czech team, welcome them to the Pacific Northwest, and help make the Girls Czech Softball team visit to Kirkland a memorable experience!

Bath House Theatre
Playwrights' Theatre will present the world premier of River Ice at the Bath House Theatre in Seattle, beginning September 1, 2012 through September 16, 2012. River Ice is set in Prague in June of 1942, and is based on the lives of the Czech parachutists who assassinated Reinhard Heydrich, the Nazi head of the occupation of Czechoslovakia. The play reveals the historical tragedy of Lidice, and details the last 2 hours of the lives of two of the parachutists who are trapped in the crypt of the church of St Cyril and Methodius on Resslova street in Prague.

University of Washington
The University of Washington in Seattle is offering Czech language course for beginners during the Fall of 2012. This course is designed for UW students as well as for the public. The general objective is that at the completion of the one-year sequence students should be able to handle everyday life situations, read Czech texts dealing with basic personal and social needs and write short simple letters.
Classes will meet daily (Monday-Friday) from 11:30am-12:20pm at Denny Hall 217.

Fall Quater, 2012
University of Washington
An exploration of the history of the lands and peoples of East Central Europe (present day Poland, Czech Republic, Hungary, and Slovakia) from the Middle Ages up to World War I. In addition to lectures, students will engage readings from the cultural history of the region, as well a novel and some films.
The class meets Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:30 to 3:20 p.m. in the Fisheries Sciences Building.
