The film is a story of an extraordinary relationship, fear, misgivings, suspision, and love that forms out of a common will to survive. Set in the 1940s, the Czech lands are occupied by the Nazis. Eliška is unable to finish medical school because the Germans closed the universities. She now works as a nurse in a city hospital and is involved in the resistance movement. The resistance group that she is involved in is discovered by the Gestapo. Eliška must find safety fast, and she joins Jonza, a patient whose life she had saved at the hospital, who keeps her safe in a mountain village called Zelary, where time stopped one hundred and fifty years ago. |
